What is MLC 2006 & what does it mean for crew?
The Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006 took effect for all commercial yachts on 20th August 2014. This directive is to ensure seafarers are protected whilst working aboard and to ensure they understand their rights. It is strongly advised that private yachts also follow the requirements.
Issues such as hours of rest, contracts, health insurance, and repatriation are detailed in this document and it only comes into effect once employed aboard a compliant yacht.
